What it Means to be ‘Certified Organic’ and Why It Matters

In our previous blog, we talked about the many reasons why we choose to grow organic hemp. Let’s now dig deeper into the particulars of the USDA certified organic label, and what it means to us.

What is Organic?

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) very explicitly defines the term ‘organic’. They state clear guidelines for anyone wishing to officially designate their operations and products:

Organic is a labeling term that indicates that the food or other agricultural product has been produced and processed using approved methods. These methods integrate cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity.

Before any operation can receive the USDA certified organic seal, it must meet all requirements in the USDA organic regulations. Every product sold, labeled, or represented as organic has to be certified organic by a USDA-accredited certifying agent. These requirements include prohibiting the application of substances in the land for 3 years prior to the harvest of an organic crop (while also prohibiting the use of genetic engineering, ionizing radiation or sewage sludge). They also mandate the use of organic seeds and other planting stock when available.

Why the USDA Certified Organic Seal Matters to Us

As we look around the hemp farming industry, many conventional practices don’t fully focus on achieving organic standards. This oftentimes leads to frightening consequences for the products we consume. It has been shown that various plants (such as the hemp plant) can serve as bioaccumulators. That means they have the ability to absorb substantial levels of contaminated soil in their shoots and roots. With little transparency, there’s no way to know about the dangers lurking in non-USDA certified organic hemp.

What ‘Certified Organic’ means to us, is being able to provide our customers pure, safe, and clean CBD and CBG according to the rigorous standards outlined by the USDA.

Why does it matter to us to be USDA certified organic? Because we’re proud to guarantee high-quality, clean and consistent options for your large-scale CBD and CBG needs.

Regenerative agricultural practices ensure that every year we work our land, the soil and environment get better. This is central in our efforts to build a more harmonious cycle.

Our Vitality Farms team is looking forward to the future of our brand, as we continue to raise the bar in USDA certified organic hemp farming. Keep following our blog for more exciting content!
